What is decent work?

Why Decent Work and labour standards?

Not any job is a good job! Half of the world’s workers earn less than two dollars a day. They either have no job or are employed under precarious conditions, without job security, safety, rights or social protection. While clearly employment is central to poverty reduction, it is only decent work that can allow people to fulfil their right to a decent life. Decent Work is now recognised as a route out of poverty for millions of people.

The Decent Work Agenda, developed by the International Labour Organisation is widely recognised as a route out of poverty. It has four objectives ~ the so-called pillars.
